Karaoke, Big Boss, and Strat-o-matic MLB 1977 update

April 10, 2022

Two years I haven’t been to karaoke. I miss it. No better stress reliever.

T-shirt seen in Shibuya- Alcohol is a Vaccine. I don’t know what it means, but seems funny, political and medical.

Am often asked who I cheer for in baseball. Tough question. When I was a kid?

Easy. George Brett, Andre Dawson and their respective teams. Now? To be honest, I find it very difficult to like any team, player. But is that because I’m a curmudgeon or is it because of them? We have too much access and information. I don’t want to know what the politics are of a player, what drugs they’re using, and the gold digger they picked up last night and who by now are being blackmailed.

When I was a kid I hated the Yankees because they hurt me personally. They beat my Royals three years in a row to go to the World Series. Still can feel the scar it left.

Now, I hate just because of info I happen to pick up. For example, this past off-season the Nippon Ham Fighters hired Tsuyoshi Shinjo as its manager. An insult to the team’s coaches and fans. First, has never managed. Second, after retiring and bashing the game as boring and admitting to missing a grounder on purpose to get to a date during his playing days, he lobbies for the job and immediately inserts himself into the spotlight,

showing up on tv shows and commercials. Third, he changes his registered name with the league to Big Boss. What a f*$%ing joke. The topper was at the home opener he showed up on a hovercraft. My wife sees nothing wrong and can’t understand my irritation. And she may be right. I find myself more interested in finding their games on tv and checking the internet for their scores. Of course, as they have started out 3-11, it has been very interesting.
